​The programme for the EFRAG and BusinessEurope event: Variable consideration – alternatives to address current accounting challenges has been published. Register now for the event which takes place on 16 February 2023 at 13:00 – 16:00 CET.

​EFRAG and BusinessEurope invite interested stakeholders to an online joint outreach event on Thursday 16 February 2023, from 13:00 to 16:00 (CET) to discuss issues arising and possible solutions in the accounting for variable consideration as considered in EFRAG’s Discussion Paper Accounting for variable consideration – from a purchaser’s perspective.

After the opening and welcome by EFRAG CEO Saskia Slomp, EFRAG FR TEG member and Partner at EY, Malgorzata Matusewicz will present the EFRAG Discussion Paper.

This will be followed by two panel sessions respectively moderated by Michael Fechner (EFRAG FRB member and Manager at Mercedes-Benz Group AG’s Accounting Department) and Claes Norberg (Chair BusinessEurope Sounding Board, EFRAG Administrative Board member and Director of Accountancy at the Confederation of Swedish Enterprise).

The first panel session, moderated by Michael Fechner, will discuss alternatives for accounting requirements on when a purchaser entity should recognise a liability for variable consideration that depends on the purchaser’s future actions.

The second panel session, moderated by Claes Norberg, will discuss alternatives for accounting requirements on whether/when the purchaser should update the measurement (at cost) of an acquired asset for changes in (estimates of) variable consideration.

  • Michael Stewart, Senior Expert of Financial Reporting Group Accounting Policy and Financial Reporting, Huawei Global Finance (UK) Limited.

Concluding remarks will be provided by Chiara Del Prete, EFRAG FR TEG Chair and EFRAG Acting SR TEG Chair.
